About the Games (How to Play + History)
How to play Pinochle (quick overview): Pinochle is a trick-taking game that also uses melds. Many versions use a 48-card deck (two copies of A, 10, K, Q, J, 9 in each suit). The flow is usually: bidding → melding (scoring combos in hand) → trick-taking (capturing counters and meeting your contract). Rules vary by region and by “double deck” vs “single deck” styles.
Pinochle history: Pinochle is commonly described as derived from the European game Bezique and associated with German-speaking roots (often called Binokel/Binocle variants).
How to play Euchre (quick overview): Euchre is a fast trick-taking partnership game, usually using a 24-card deck (A, K, Q, J, 10, 9). Players choose or “call” trump, then play to win 3 of 5 tricks. The key twist is the Right Bower (jack of trump) and Left Bower (jack of the same-color suit), which become the highest trumps.
Euchre history: Euchre emerged in the U.S. in the early 19th century and is widely linked to an older Alsatian game called Jucker. It’s also closely associated with the early history of the joker card in American card packs.
