Plastic Playing Cards

Plastic playing cards are a durable choice for poker, bridge, canasta, and everyday card games. Designed to withstand repeated shuffling and handling, fully plastic decks generally resist moisture, bending, and wear better than traditional paper playing cards. Explore plastic decks from KEM, Copag, Modiano, Hoyle, Piatnik, and other established playing-card brands.

Not all plastic playing cards are made from the same material. Cellulose acetate, used by KEM and certain premium decks, is a type of plastic. Other popular decks use PVC-based plastic. Both offer alternatives to plastic-coated paper cards, but their flexibility, firmness, texture, and handling can differ.

• Poker size vs. bridge size: Poker-size cards are wider, while bridge-size playing cards are narrower and preferred by many bridge and canasta players.
• Jumbo vs. regular index: Jumbo index playing cards have larger corner markings for easier reading. Regular index cards retain a more traditional appearance.
• Single decks vs. double-deck sets: Single decks work well for replacements and casual games. Double-deck sets are convenient for regular play, alternating colors, and card groups.

Plastic Playing Cards FAQ

Are plastic playing cards really 100% plastic?

Many are. Fully plastic playing cards may use PVC or cellulose acetate, depending on the manufacturer and product line. Plastic-coated paper cards are different because they retain a paper core.

What is the difference between PVC and cellulose acetate playing cards?

Both are plastics used to make durable playing cards. Their flexibility, firmness, thickness, and handling can differ. KEM is well known for cellulose acetate, while brands such as Copag and Modiano offer other plastic constructions.

Are all plastic playing cards waterproof?

Many plastic decks resist moisture and can be cleaned, but care instructions vary. For poolside, outdoor, or wet conditions, choose decks specifically sold for waterproof use.

How do I clean plastic playing cards?

For routine cleaning, gently wipe the cards with a slightly damp cloth and allow them to dry thoroughly. Some fully plastic decks can be washed with mild soap and lukewarm water. Always follow the manufacturer's care instructions before washing or soaking a deck.

Which plastic playing cards should I buy first?

Choose KEM if you prefer premium cellulose acetate, Copag for a wide selection of fully plastic decks, or Modiano for European playing-card styles. For outdoor use, start with our Waterproof Playing Cards.
