The Honeybee V2 (Yellow) deck marks the evolution of Penguin Magic’s first-ever custom playing card series. Designated "No. 17" on the tuck box to commemorate its 2017 release, this edition answers the call of magicians and cardists worldwide who loved the original 2015 release (No. 15) but demanded one crucial upgrade: white borders.
The "No. 17" Evolution
While the original V1 "No. 15" deck paid homage to the borderless style of classic casino cards, the No. 17 V2 was re-engineered for practical magic and cardistry. The addition of elegant white borders makes this deck perfect for reversed card effects and sleights where a borderless deck might reveal too much. Despite the update, it retains the series' signature charm: a nod to traditional Bee® decks, but swapping the standard diamond pattern for a custom honeycomb lattice with two realistic honeybees walking on the back.
Design & Features
Designed by Randy Butterfield, the deck feels both familiar and distinctively new.
- Honey-Dipped Aesthetics: The back design features a rich, golden-yellow honeycomb pattern that looks sweet enough to taste.
- Custom Courts & Pips: Traditional court cards are reimagined with a custom color scheme and background pattern. The Hearts and Diamonds feature a deep, "high-roller" red for a premium look.
- The Beekeeper: Standard Jokers have been replaced by custom Beekeeper Jokers, and the Ace of Spades features a custom Beehive design.
- Magician's Tools: Includes two powerful gaff cards—a Double Backer and a Blank Facer—for creative magic routines.
Handling & Stock
Printed by USPCC, the Honeybee V2 is built for professional use. It uses embossed Bee Casino Stock with a "Magic" finish for superior fanning and durability. Crucially, the deck is Traditionally Cut (the blade goes through the face side), making table faro shuffles and gambling moves significantly smoother than standard decks.
