A Rare St. Paul Hoyle with an Unusual Gray Jester Joker
These vintage Hoyle Super Jumbo Bridge Playing Cards combine one of Hoyle's most recognizable designs with one of the more unusual versions of its famous Jester Joker. Produced during the St. Paul era of Hoyle Products, before the brand was acquired by The United States Playing Card Company, the deck features the classic Shell Back in your choice of red or blue.
The real collector highlight is inside. Instead of the familiar red-and-yellow Hoyle Jester, this Super Jumbo version uses a distinctive red-and-gray color treatment. Two matching full-size optical-illusion Jokers are included, with the jester holding a scepter topped by a miniature version of his own face.
The rest of the deck is equally distinctive. Designed for players who need maximum visibility, the Super Jumbo format uses approximately 1-inch ranks and suit symbols. Kings, Queens and Jacks are represented by oversized letters and a large center suit symbol rather than traditional illustrated court figures.
The Ace of Spades is marked “HOYLE PRODUCTS – ST. PAUL MINN. U.S.A.”, identifying this as pre-2001 Hoyle production from the brand's independent Minnesota era. The Jokers are marked “HOYLE – PLASTIC COATED – Made in U.S.A.”.

The Rare Red & Gray Hoyle Jester
Hoyle's optical-illusion Jester Joker is one of the most recognizable Jokers in American playing-card history. On the familiar version, the jester's costume contains bright yellow accents. The Super Jumbo version found in this deck substitutes gray for those yellow areas, creating a much less commonly encountered red, gray, black and pink colorway. Both matching Jokers are included.
Designed for Maximum Visibility
Super Jumbo Hoyle cards were created for easier reading. The bridge-size cards use exceptionally large letters and suit symbols, with a single oversized suit symbol centered on most cards. Even the King, Queen and Jack eliminate conventional court artwork in favor of bold, highly visible markings.
